Monday’s girls soccer match between Seymour and Madison ended the same way it started, in a 0-0 tie.

Owls coach Greg Musser credited his team with a strong performance.

“We had a solid effort,” he said. “We had our opportunities. We played too much on our heels in the second half.”

Musser said Seymour’s best chance to score came on two breakaways by Kenzi Henkle, one in each half.

“She has worked hard and showed us a lot in practice,” he said.

The Owls also had a great opportunity to score with just over five minutes remaining when Gabby Guzman had a shot on goal that was stopped by Madison goalie Peighton Chatham.

The Owls finished with five shots to eight for the Cubs.

Seymour goalie Elizabeth Trueblood had seven saves, and Chatham had three saves.

This was the final home match for Seymour seniors Trueblood, Cheyanne Givens, Ashlyn Henderson, Rachel Lenart, Avery Musgrave, Allison Rodriguez, Alondra Zamora, Elise Hartung, Sam Cardenas and Claire Marshall.

Seymour (4-10-2) will close out its regular season and Hoosier Hills Conference competition on Thursday night at Columbus East.

The sectional draw was announced on Monday, and the Owls will play in the Class 3A Bedford North Lawrence Sectional that will begin Tuesday.

After Jeffersonville faces Jennings County at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Seymour will battle Floyd Central.

The Owls and Highlanders battled to a 1-1 tie in a Hoosier Hills match on Sept. 12.

The schedule for Thursday has the Tuesday winners playing at 5 p.m., followed by Bedford North Lawrence playing New Albany.
