Brownstown Speedway hosting Jackson 100 tonight

Brownstown Speedway will host its biggest racing event ever tonight at the Jackson County Fairgrounds racetrack.

The 44th annual Jackson 100 will feature the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with a track record $30,000 going to the winner out of a $100,000 feature purse. Also competing tonight will be modifieds and super stocks. Gates will open at noon with hot laps at 6 p.m. There will be tickets available at the gate or you can order online at brownstownspeedway.com.

Cain wins again at Brownstown

It was another great night for racing at Brownstown Speedway on Sept. 16 for Schaefer Photo and Custom Designs night. A fast-moving racing program was finished before 10:30 p.m. with five racing divisions and more than 125 cars in competition.

Tyler Cain of Seymour in P3 Graphix ILMS Pro Late Models jumped to the front of the 25-lap feature and never looked back. This was Cain’s third ILMS win of the year and third win out of the last four races. Chad Stapleton, Alan Magner, Marty O’Neal and Robert Rainey rounded out the top five.

Pewter Hall Super Stock action had two- and three-wide racing all through the field in a highly competitive event. Current points leader Tanner Chastain of Bedford picked up his second win of 2023. He finished ahead of Zach Sasser, Isaiah Sasser, Colton Sullivan and Greg Amick.

For the second race in a row, Brent McMillan of North Vernon took the lead late in the race to score an All in One Pools Pure Stock feature victory. Preston Carr, Mickey Hines, Josh Turner and Edgar Godsey rounded out the top five.

Cranmer is a name familiar to Flag 2 Flag Media Crown Vic racing. Six of the top 10 feature finishers had the last name Cranmer, but it was Trevor Cranmer of Jeffersonville taking the checkers first, getting his first Brownstown win. He is the fifth Cranmer to win a Crown Vic feature at the track this year. Trevor picked up his win over Matt Cranmer, Jeff Cranmer, Jason Cranmer and Joel Smith.

In the Haymaker Customs Hornet feature, Michael Brewer of North Vernon took the lead from Jeremy Shemwell on the white flag lap and went on to record his third win out of the last four races. He has four wins on the year. Shemwell took second over Jeremy Ogle, Brian Pollitt and Brandon Crockett.

Meseraull wins at Lawrenceburg

Thomas Meseraull won the sprint car feature Sept. 16 at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Nick Bilbee was second, followed by Saban Bibent, Joss Moffatt and Cody Gardner. Matt Hamilton won the modified feature over Joe Smith, Jason Hollon, Nicholas Byrd and Cory Skipton.

Shatto wins at Tony Stewart Speedway

Evan Shatto of Columbus won the All-Star Circuit of Champions TQ Midget feature Sept. 15 at Tony Stewart Speedway in Columbus. Johnny Goff was second, followed by Cory Clay, Addison True and Matthew Hedrick.

Trammell wins at Paragon

Cody Trammell of Bloomington won the sprint car feature Sept. 16 at Paragon Speedway. Jake Scott was second, followed by Shane Cottle, Brandon Spencer and Ryan Thomas. Reece Novak of Gosport won the super stock feature over Randy Brawley, Jeremy Stierwalt, Sam Arthur and Jacob Ham. Juan Asbury of Mitchell won the bomber feature over Will McRoberts, Katie Grigsby, Austin Leitzman and Jason Trimmer II. Alex Wilson won the hornet feature race over Conner Garrison, Casey Elliott, A.J. Hobbs and Tom Houston.

Several win in Columbus Go-Karts

Columbus Speedway Go-Kart Racing held an event Sept. 9 at Tony Stewart Speedway located at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds. The division winners were Macy Staton (junior 1 and junior champ), Mason Barnett (junior 3), Cash Johnson (pro green and pro purple), Robby Young (pred and clone heavy), Delaney Pinter (senior champ), Chris Plank (rwyb), Cole Huard (clone light and clone medium), Cody Jaggers (clone super heavy), Travis Wilburn (sumo) and Jeff Cast (Mod lites).

From 60 years ago in 1963 at Lawrenceburg, Dick Gaines won the super modified feature over Ross Smith and Roy Robbins. Earl Smith won the stock car feature over Bruce Gould and Ross Smith.

Also, in 1963 at Brownstown, Paul Crockett won the stock car feature race.

From 60 years ago at Paragon, Greg Weld won the super modified special over Orville Yeadon, Gene Henson, Larry Cannon and Bob Kinser.
