Charlestown defeats Trinity 4-0 in girls soccer; Face North Harrison on Saturday

Charlestown’s girls soccer team scored two goals in each half to defeat Trinity Lutheran 4-0 on the Cougars’ field Tuesday night.

Anna Almeciga scored a goal at the 36:15 mark of the first half, and Ari Rivera added a goal later in the first half. Rivera then scored twice in the second half.

Trinity Coach Thom Hayes said he felt like his team came out aggressive and had some good attacks early in the match, but Charlestown’s depth wore his team down in the second half.

“I was actually pleased with the way the game started because we were keeping the ball at our end more than I thought we might against this team, so I was happy with that,” he said.

The Cougars had five shots on goal for the night, and Trinity goalie Dianna Munoz recorded 11 saves.

“They are a much deeper team, and just the skill level of their bench,” Hayes said. “We don’t hardly have a bench. They were definitely more experienced, which is what we’ve been working with all season.”

The Cougars only have two reserves on their bench. Coach Hayes is still proud of the effort he is seeing from the team.

“The girls are hanging in there, though, which I’m glad to see,” he said. “Hopefully, we can continue getting better conditioned, because at the end you can tell we were gassed, and they were still going strong.”

He said he is still looking for the right combinations.

“We’re still trying to move people around because everyone is so new,” Hayes said.

“Is this person better on defense, or offense? Who is going to end up playing where once they get some experience? That is kind of what we’re working on,” he added.

Trinity (1-7) will travel to North Harrison on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
