Feeding a need

Thumbs up to the 150 or so people who spent part of this past Saturday participating in The Alley’s 12th annual Thousand Ten Project. Since the start, the goal has been to help reach as many people as possible while living out the mission “Love God, love people.” In teams of 10, they take the money collected and go into the community to help those in need, whether it’s buying groceries, providing furniture or clothing, paying utility bills, mowing lawns or buying fuel. A related thumbs up to the 33 sponsors who donated funds to the project and the 12 churches that also were involved.

Fighting hunger

Thumbs up to everyone who contributed to the Fight Hunger, Stock the Trailer food drive contest at this year’s Jackson County Fair. More than 8,500 pounds of food was raised during the fair, which was good for a third-place finish among the 36 county fairs that participated in the campaign. Across the state, 99,020 pounds of food was raised to benefit more than 50 food banks, including 4-H Little Food Pantries, Shed for You, The Good Samaritan, Anchor House Family Assistance Center and Pantry and Jackson-Jennings Community Corrections in Jackson County, to combat hunger. A big thumbs up goes to the Jackson County 4-H Goat Club for the work they put in to make the food drive happen.

Appreciated

Thumbs up to the employees of Aisin Drivetrain Inc. in Crothersville for raising nearly $8,000 for 11 causes during the company’s annual employee appreciation days from April to August. The automotive parts maker’s contribution made the total $19,000, resulting in nine local organizations receiving $1,500 and the other two getting $750. The effort also allowed Crothersville FFA and the high school’s senior class to earn some funds as well by serving as vendors for monthly employee appreciation days.

Thumbs up to the Braves of the Month for August. Second-grader Ollie Tidwell, sixth-grader Bradey Humphrey and senior Katelynn Snowden were recognized during Monday’s meeting of the Brownstown Central Community School Corp. board of school trustees.
