SEYMOUR

Alice L. Watts, age 93, of Seymour was welcomed into her heavenly home on September 13, 2023 with her family by her side.

Alice entered this life on January 28, 1930 in Moberly, Missouri, the first-born daughter of the late Thorvald Damgaard and Helen Damgaard Halterman. She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years and beloved siblings, Donald Damgaard and Marilyn Sparks.

Alice married Richard (Gene) Watts on October 17, 1948 in Moberly, MO, and they were blessed with two children: Chris Watts (Becky) and Ann Parman (Greg). Also cherishing memories of Alice are her grandchildren, Allison Bevilaqua, Tracy Tolliver, and Mark Watts, and great grandchildren, Andrew Tolliver, Reid Tolliver, Julian Bevilaqua and Annabel Bevilaqua.

In the early years of their marriage Alice and Gene lived in St. Louis, Missouri; Cairo, Illinois; and Lexington, Tennessee. They also had the adventure of living in Perth, Ontario, Canada for a period of five years where they made many lifelong friends and had the unique experience of being members of the Perth Curling Club before finally settling in Seymour, Indiana in 1963.

Alice was a member of the First Baptist Church Seymour for over 50 years. At First Baptist Church, Alice served as a deaconess and chair of the Board of Deaconesses, Sunday School Teacher, VBS volunteer, member of the church choir, member of the Valli Howard Missionary Circle, church kitchen volunteer, and on committees coordinating several women’s spiritual retreats.

Early in her work years Alice served as the church secretary at First Baptist Church Seymour. Later she was employed at the Seymour Tribune and finally retired with over 20 years of service from Blue &Company, Inc. in 1995. During her retirement she delivered Meals on Wheels for 16 years with her husband and a dear church friend.

Alice was blessed in her life by close and supportive friendships within her church family, the community and her neighborhood. Through her church friendships a “birthday girls” group of five lovely women formed to celebrate their birthdays throughout the year and they did this for several decades. We thank these women and all of Alice’s friends and a very special neighbor who provided extra comfort and support to Alice during the past 10 months.

Alice loved spending time with her family. She traveled to the Washington, DC area annually to visit her daughter’s family and toured the many national monuments and historical sites in the area. She visited her son’s family in New Mexico and went to the annual Albuquerque Balloon Festival. She also vacationed with her daughter’s family in Naples, Florida and traveled with her son’s family to Hawaii and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Alice and Gene traveled to California on several occasions and cruised in the Caribbean to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Alice and Gene enjoyed traveling throughout the Midwest and Virginia to watch their grandchildren perform in their high school marching band competitions.

Visitation will take place from 11-1 PM, Monday, September 18, 2023, at Voss &Sons Funeral Home, 316 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour. Rev. Bruce Cochran and Rev. Larry Tingle will officiate a funeral service at 1PM at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery.

Alice’s family wishes to thank the many healthcare professionals that provided loving care to Alice in the last year of her life. They especially would like to thank the staff at Schneck Memorial Hospital Infusion Center and the staff at Hoosier Christian Village. Memorials may be given to The American Red Cross, Schneck Foundation, The Hoosier Christian Village Foundation, or First Baptist Church Seymour.

Online condolences may be shared with the Watts family at www.vossfuneralservice.com.
