The Seymour Owls boys soccer team was back in action on Saturday afternoon, facing the Oldenburg Academy Twisters in Seymour.

Oldenburg Academy came into the contest undefeated at 8-0 on the season with the Owls at 3-4-1.

The Owls took a 2-1 victory over the Twisters, thanks to goals from Myles Chandler in the 38th minute and David Polbito in the 43rd minute.

The boys improved to 4-4-1 on the 2023 season with the win.

“It was a good win,” Owls head coach Matt Dennis said. “We were able to rest players and get some young guys quality minutes in a competitive match. We weren’t good technically at times, but we showed good patterns and build up throughout the game.”

Martin Sebastian assisted Chandler for the score with Chandler assisting Polbito in his score. Seymour controlled possession for the majority of the contest, not allowing many shots on goal throughout the game.

Owls goalie Lance Hubbard recorded two saves in the victory.

After multiple weeks and nine games, Dennis spoke about the team throughout the first month of the season.

“The team is growing and learning our new system,” he said. “Goals will come. Our organization is getting better. I like where we are at halfway through the match schedule.”

Seymour also picked up the win in the junior varsity game, dominating the Twisters 6-0.

The Owls will prepare to face Floyd Central on the road Tuesday. The game will take place at 7:30 p.m.

Seymour’s JV boys soccer team will play at 6 p.m. beforehand.

Dennis spoke on the conference matchup with the Highlanders on Tuesday.

“It will be a tough match for us, but we are going into it looking for another win,” he added. “The Hoosier Hills Conference is still up for grabs, so there is still a lot to play for on Tuesday night.”

The Owls will look for their fifth win of the season and try to improve to 3-1 in the conference.

After Tuesday’s game, Seymour heads to Madison for a date with the Cubs, starting at 7 p.m. Thursday. The boys will then get a home game on Saturday against Lawrenceburg, which will take place at 11:30 a.m.
