Donald W. Herald, a beloved member of the Crothersville community, passed away at 6:05 AM on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He was born on Sunday, June 23, 1946, in Booneville, KY, to his parents, Andy and Polly Ann (Riley) Herald. Donald’s journey of life was marked by a strong work ethic, a deep commitment to faith, and a profound love for his family and community. On July 6, 1976, Donald married Idella “Dee” (Smith) Herald at her parents’ home in Greenbriar, TN. Dee preceded Donald in death on August 6, 2021. Donald’s professional journey was characterized by dedication and hard work. He retired from Cummins in 1997 after years of devoted service and later retired from Home Products in Seymour, IN after a decade of contributing his talents. He was a man of unwavering commitment in all aspects of his life. Devotion to faith played a central role in Donald’s life. He was a cherished member of the First Baptist Church in Crothersville and attended the Tampico Christian Church. Donald’s life was filled with simple pleasures that brought him immense joy. He loved spending time with his grandkids, sharing his wisdom and creating cherished memories. He was an avid angler, a skilled bowler, and a big supporter of his grandkids and great grandkids in all their activities and sporting endeavors. Donald is survived by his 2 loving children, Annette (Randy) King of Crothersville, IN and Ryan Herald of Crothersville, IN. His legacy continues through his four grandchildren, Coleman King, Coleigh (Andy) Hackman, Wyatt Minton, and Easton Minton as well as his three great-grandchildren, Korbin, Krew, and Kutler Hackman. He is also survived by his brother, A.C. (Lorene) Herald of Austin, IN. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Idella “Dee” Herald, son, Jason W. “Lil Jay” Herald, on September 3, 2012, daughter, Krista Shay Herald on May 11, 2015, parents, Andy and Polly Ann (Riley) Herald, sister, Marilyn Terry, an infant brother, and his companion, Deanna “Debug” Slack on June 2, 2023. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Randy King on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 7:00 PM at Adams Family Funeral Homes &Crematory in Crothersville, IN. Family and friends may pay their respects from 3:00 PM until the service time at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in honor of Donald be made to Ride for A Cure, c/o Adams Family Funeral Homes &Crematory, 110 East Howard Street, Crothersville, IN 47229. Donald W. Herald’s presence in our lives will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and community that will continue to inspire us all.
