Pie baking contest set for Hayden festival

0

Hayden’s Pioneer Days and Harvest Past is coming up Sept. 2, and one of the featured events will be the annual pie baking contest.

Contestants can enter one or more fruit pies or a pie that does not need to be refrigerated.

The pies can be dropped off at the Hayden Historical Museum kitchen any time between 9 and 11 am. with judging beginning at 11 a.m. Pies will be graded on appearance and taste. Awards will be given for the bakers of the first-, second- and third-place pies.

Tom Lawson, the volunteer auctioneer, will auction off the top three pies at noon on the pavilion stage.

Jennings County 4-H Fair Queen Katelynn Asbury and the members of her court, Anna Hyden, Ava Galliher, Alli Caudill and Macie Voss, will be on hand to assist with the pie auction.

All other pie entries will be sliced and offered in exchange for a freewill donation at the back of the pavilion.
