SEYMOUR, IN

David Wayne Pollert, 67, of Seymour passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at the Lutheran Community Home in Seymour after a courageous battle with cancer.

David was born on April 9, 1956, in Seymour, to Omer Lee and Norma Sue (Russell) Pollert. On September 1, 1978, he married Elaine Richart at Immanuel Lutheran Church, and she survives. In addition to his wife and mother, David is survived by a daughter, Carrie Smith; three grandchildren, Elijah Rush Smith, Ezra Christien Smith, and Ari Michael Smith; three brothers Ron (Donna) Pollert, Brian Pollert, and Tim (Cindy) Pollert; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter in infancy, Christen Pollert.

David, or “Omer” as he was known by many of his friends, was employed for over forty years by Graessle-Mercer Co. in Seymour. After his retirement there, he worked as a custodian at Immanuel Lutheran School, where he attended school before graduating from Seymour High School in 1974. David was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 89 in Seymour. In addition to enjoying golf and most sports, including IU basketball and Indianapolis Colts football, David loved spending time at his pool, listening to all types of music while hosting his neighbors and family. He could usually settle any argument about music with his knowledge of the subject matter and liked to recall concerts he attended. He also enjoyed watching his daughter and grandson compete for Seymour swimming teams, and liked to time at swim meets. He also enjoyed his cats, Callie and Zoie.

The family would like to thank the staff of Columbus Regional Hospital, Lutheran Community Home, and Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana for the extraordinary care they gave David throughout the past couple of months and ask that memorials be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Faith in our Future Campaign.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 12 noon with Reverend William Fredstrom officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon at the Church.

Burial will be Four Corners St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
