Library planning family concert at park

Join the Jackson County Public Library as it hosts nationally renowned musician, author and child development specialist Jim Gill.

The free concert, open to all ages, will take place at 10:30 a.m. July 10 at Crossroads Community Park, 101 E. Tipton St., Seymour, and is sponsored by Friends of the Jackson County Public Library, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 655 and Jackson Masonic Lodge 146.

Gill is a musician and author known for celebrating active play, according to a news release from the library. In concert, he strums energizing rhythms on his banjo while everyone sings, claps, dances and spins along to his silly and inspiring musical games. Each concert is more than a show to watch. It is an opportunity for family play.

This concert is part of an ongoing celebration of the release of his newest collection of recordings. The three CDs are called “Jim Gill’s Most Celebrated Songs” and are filled with his best and most active music play.

Gill promises in concert to share a nonstop selection of singalongs, dancealongs, finger plays and tongue twisters, and he will feature a readalong and singalong of at least one of his musical books. The concert will feature Jim’s “Silly Dance Contest,” his jazzy “One from the Left” finger play and many more opportunities for children, parents and grandparents to sing and play together.

Bring blankets and/or chairs for a more comfortable experience, but plan on being up and moving much of the time.
