Shields High School Class of 1953 gathers for 70th reunion


The Shields High School Class of 1953 celebrated its 70th reunion June 17 at Brewskies Downtown in Seymour with 21 graduates and guests in attendance.

It was noted at the reunion five years ago, there were 40 present.

Irene Nichalson Sprenger welcomed members as they signed in and received their name tags. Jim Harvey gave the dinner blessing. All of those in attendance received up-to-date membership lists with addresses and phone numbers prepared by Jim Moritz.

The following members sent messages that were passed among the group: Alice Schneck Belt, Elvera Tormoehlen Duwe, Richard Linke and Sally Fettig Ford. A deceased member list also was available. Don Decker phoned from California and talked to several in attendance.

At the conclusion of the gathering, Irene Sprenger was presented a bouquet of roses by Moritz for all of her work in getting the letters out and keeping things up to date.

Those attending were Moritz, who is from San Jose, California; Joan Martin, Richmond; Shirley Toborg Newkirk and Carolyn Voss Trimpe, Franklin; Vivian Pearson Schroer and William Cooper, Columbus; Wanda Rainey Ewing, Fishers; Jane Coy Witte, Jasper; Shirley Kiel Huber, Knoxville, Tennessee; Jackie Crum Gunther, Memphis, Tennessee; James Harvey, Irene Nichalson Sprenger, Doris Montgomery Baurle, Mary A. Manuel Stevens, Seymour; and Tommy Bryant (Class of 1951), Fort Wayne. Also, guests John Sprenger, Bud Witte, Linda Wheeler, Linda Robson, Jeff Gunther and Polly Royal.
