Wrapping up a regional

Thumbs up to the Brownstown Central High School baseball team for capturing the first regional title in program history Saturday with a 7-3 win over Providence in the Class 2A Floyd Central Regional. Members of the Braves’ squad are Ethan Fultz, Carson Darlage, Jaxson Johnson, Lane Pendleton, Andrew Roberts, Dalton Reedy, Lane Steward, Preston Garrison, Easton Branaman, Chick Tiemeyer, Coleson Ellison, Evan Schneider, Ethan Garland, Caydin Bishop, Brody Short, Pierson Wheeler, Trent Lowery and Grayson Cassidy. The 24-8 Braves will meet Covenant Christian on Saturday in the first contest of the Mooresville Semistate.

Dedicated to duty

Thumbs up to Dave Freeman of Medora, who recently was honored for his 50 years of service with the Carr Township Volunteer Fire Department, including 15 years as chief. Currently, Freeman serves as the assistant chief.

Great service

Thumbs up to the Seymour city workers who picked up two small trees I had cut down at my home on Western Parkway. They did so very promptly. Another thumbs up to the animal control man who picked up a raccoon I had caught in a trap. We pay for their services but don’t know how well they do until we need them.

Darlene Oathout, Seymour

Award winning writer

Thumbs up to Brenda Juarez Marcelo, who recently penned the winning entry in the mayor’s essay contest. In her “What I like about Seymour” essay, the fifth-grader at Margaret R. Brown Elementary School wrote about all of the cool things about the city, its history and so much more. In the fourth edition of the Coloring Seymour coloring book, Juarez Marcelo is on Page 60 wearing a Brown Elementary shirt and holding a pizza. In the background are a train on railroad tracks, Seymour High School and military airplanes, all things she wrote about in her essay. On Page 61 is a copy of her winning essay.

Pitching in

Thumbs up to Mother Nature for giving Jackson County and the rest of south central Indiana a much-needed shot of rain.
