57th Tampico truck, tractor pull set for next weekend

TAMPICO — New seating will be available for the Grassy Fork Township Volunteer Fire Department’s 57th annual truck and tractor pull and fish fry that is coming to Tampico next weekend.

The event will be June 15 to 17 at the fire department, 5358 S. County Road 450E, Tampico. Both admission and parking will be free.

Greg Wischmeier, a member of the volunteer fire department, said they wanted to try something new this year and rented bleachers so community members could have a better view of the truck and tractor pulls.

He said the bleachers were placed Tuesday, and if they are successfully filled throughout the weekend event, they will most likely rent them again.

The fire department rented two bleachers that will go on each side of the track.

The schedule for opening night features pedal tractor pulls for children, antique tractor pulls for machines that were manufactured in 1961 or older and a garden tractor pull sanctioned by the Southern Indiana Pulling Association.

A 7 mph antique tractor pull will be a Phil Teipen Memorial Class and also take place on opening night.

Registration for the pedal pull starts at 6 p.m. with the pulls beginning at 6:30 p.m.

June 16 events begin at 7 p.m. and feature 12,000-pound farm stock tractor pulls, hot farm tractors, 3.0 diesel pickups and light limited pro stock tractors.

The hot farm, diesel pickups and light limited pro stock tractors will be sanctioned by the Indiana Pulling League.

The same classes will be featured at 7 p.m. June 17. These tractors also will be sanctioned by the Indiana Pulling League.

Five vehicles constitute a class, and all unsanctioned classes are limited to one hook.

An entry fee of $30 is required to compete. No entry is allowed after a class has started.

All pullers must be present a half-hour before the pull starts for a mandatory driver meeting.

Sanctioned classes follow Pro Pulling League rules.

No glass bottles or grills will be allowed on the grounds, and the fire department is not responsible for accidents.

“We hope everybody comes out and supports the local fire department,” Wischmeier said.
