Crothersville woman recognized by town council

CROTHERSVILLE — Linda Seals thought she was going to Tuesday night’s Crothersville Town Council meeting to see her daughter be recognized.

As information was read by council President Jason Hillenburg about the honoree for the certificate of appreciation for excellence in community service, it took her a few minutes to realize it was her that was actually being recognized.

The purpose of the monthly award is to recognize a local resident, club, organization or business for being an outstanding citizen and going above and beyond to give back to the community to help make Crothersville a great place to live.

“This month’s recipient is a local resident who loves her hometown,” Hillenburg said while reading the nomination. “She is a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother and is well-loved in our community.”

He said Seals is a founding member of Hamacher Hall and is still an active member of the historical facility that’s owned and operated by the nonprofit organization Crothersville Historical and Cultural Arts Association. She’s also a member of the Crothersville Senior Citizens Center and a longtime member of Crothersville Christian Church.

It wasn’t until the next bit of information was shared that Seals realized Hillenburg was talking about her.

“She is a 1956 graduate of Crothersville High School,” he said, to which she reacted with “Oh!”

He then said Seals worked at Crothersville High School and Cummins before retiring from Schneck Medical Center.

“Her hobbies include researching genealogy for family and friends, studying town history, collecting, sharing old town photos, reading, painting, working in her yard and especially loves spending time with her family,” Hillenburg said.

Before the council presented a framed certificate to Seals, Hillenburg said, “Thank you, Linda, for all that you do in our community.”

Her daughter, council Vice President Terry Richey, gave her the certificate as she joined the five-member council for a photo. Then she received a round of applause.

Councilman Chad Wilson had submitted the nomination for Seals to be honored.

“We got you, Linda,” he said, smiling.
