The Hayden Historical Museum’s summer hours have been announced and will remain in effect until after Labor Day.

The museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays and from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays

The museum features a research library and an exhibit area with several different displays to highlight Hayden and Spencer Township’s heritage. Some of these include the Gallery of Agricultural Leaders section, a salute to the veterans from the community and the eight professional baseball players from Hayden.

The museum’s largest exhibit is the old Sinclair gas station. First built along U.S. 50 in 1926, this building was moved to the museum property in 2001. Volunteers used an old photograph to restore the station to the way it looked in 1947.

The monument to Hayden native and former Indiana Gov. Edgar D. Whitcomb is located in the side yard of his home place. The monument highlights his life and career as a veteran of World War II, a politician and an around-the-world sailor.

The newest attraction is the standalone building that is named A Place Called Yesterday. This museum contains many examples of home entertainment devices that were used before the days of electricity. There are displays of several various music parlor instruments along with an almost complete collection of Life magazines that were donated by Lester and Barbara Tracy.
