NORTH VERNON

Our family deeply mourns the loss of Michael Glair Thayer: Son to Dr. and Mrs. Benet William Thayer and siblings, Nancy Ellen and Terence Kelso. He is survived by his nieces, Ann Avery, Jenny Bradshaw, Gwyneth Thayer, and his nephews Alexander Thayer and Michael Baker, as well as by his grand-nieces and nephews Darien Siguenza, Bronwyn Bradshaw, Kelso Bradshaw, Kaila Thayer – and a new, expectant bright star soon to be born in June 2023: Kahlia Avonne.

Michael Thayer walked through the hearts of all those in the North Vernon community, and with great joy served as a volunteer for many organizations, including St. Vincent de Paul, Red Cross, and Hospice of Jennings County. With a degree in Childhood Education from Manchester University, Michael lovingly taught budding generations in classrooms of North Vernon, Kentucky, New Mexico and even across the pond in England for one year.

Michael loved all he met and lifted hearts with his wit and warm spirit. We relished each conversation – hearing stories of his teaching, travel adventures and experiences which touched him. The teacher in him was forever present with his inquisitive and playful banter. His smile would light up every room. When he encountered a child, he would take a moment to make him or her feel important. Michael had an innate understanding and special way of communicating with children and people of all ages. We will dearly miss our son, brother, uncle, and friend. Michael Thayer leaves behind a legacy of service to others, and the kind of love shown to his fellow man that is rare and will forever serve as our example of his beautiful character.

Visitation will be held at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Saturday, May 27, 2023, from 11 am until 1 pm with a closing prayer at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at the Bear Creek St. Anne Cemetery in North Vernon.
