Seymour competes at HHC

The Seymour boys golf team shot a 337 at the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament at Timbergate Golf Course on Monday.

Floyd Central won the HHC with a team score of 299, followed by Bedford North Lawrence 309, Columbus East 321, New Albany 318, Jennings County 336 and Jeffersonville 434.

Manny Fontanez led the Owls with a 43-37-80. Luke Baker shot a 40-42-82, Noah Surface 42-43-85, Ty Stuckwisch 42-48-90 and Trevor Alberring 50-44-94.

Seymour will host BNL and Providence later today at Shadowood Golf Course at 5 p.m.

Braves’ JV plays at Salem

The Brownstown Central junior varsity boys golf team played at Salem on Monday and shot a 183 to place third.

Christian Academy won with 169, followed by Salem 170, Orleans 191 and Eastern (Pekin) 214.

Drew Shelton shot 44, Elix Preston 45, Cole Brelage 46 and Jaren Cunningham 46.

The full Brownstown team will be in action later today at Madison.

Baseball

Owls defeat Musketeers

After giving up two runs in the first inning at Eastern (Pekin) on Monday night, the Seymour baseball team responded in a big way as the Owls went on to win the game 13-2.

Bret Perry and Brady Harpe each had two hits, and Vince Wilson, Treyton McCormick, Skyler Cockerham, Braden Richey, Will Kratoska, Grayson Key and John Capistran all had one hit.

Perry and Harpe each had three RBI, Wilson and Richey each had two RBI, and Mikey Wright and Parker Thompson each had one RBI.

Harpe pitched five innings for the Owls and had 11 strikeouts, and Gavin Leavy pitched two innings and had three strikeouts.

The Owls (23-4) will be playing against Jeffersonville in the sectional on Saturday at New Albany.

The 23 wins for Seymour are the most for the program since 1991.

Braves beat Rebels

The Brownstown Central baseball team got win No. 20 on Monday as the Braves went on the road to beat Southwestern (Hanover) 13-5.

Ethan Garland and Jaxson Johnson each had two hits, and Carson Darlage, Evan Schneider, Pierson Wheeler and Dalton Reedy each had one hit.

Johnson had three RBI, Grayson Cassidy and Ethan Fultz each had two RBI and Garland, Trent Lowery and Reedy each had one RBI.

Darlage pitched four innings and had six strikeouts, Reedy pitched two innings with three strikeouts and Lowery pitched one inning with two strikeouts.

The Braves (20-8) will start sectional play on Wednesday against Brown County at Austin.
