Members of the Jackson County Retired Teachers Association met Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Seymour.

Members donated personal hygiene items needed for the Anchor House East Shelter.

President Bonnie Koontz welcomed the members and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. She introduced Mark Guard, Area 10 director, and he told the members the legislature did not pass a cost of living adjustment or 13th check for Indiana retired teachers. Guard also told the group he was assuming the office of secretary-treasurer of the Indiana State Retired Teachers, and Cheryl Corning would finish his Area 10 director’s term.

Sandra McLin, AMBA benefits rep, presented information about recent scams and distributed information about benefits available.

Terrye Davidson shared information about the Donna Sullivan Legacy Day and scholarship fund drive. Trish Whitcomb talked about her recently published book, “Revolution Road Trip.”

Koontz announced Becky Davis would attend the representative assembly June 7. Following approval of the minutes of the February meeting and the treasurer’s report, Sandy Melloncamp and Carolyn Bridges were thanked for the table decorations, which were a tropical summer theme with pineapple-shaped sippy cups filled with mints, given as door prizes.

Terry Thompson of North Vernon with his guitar provided the entertainment.

Officers for 2023-24 will be Koontz, president; Ann Mahan, vice president; Connie Gerth, secretary; Becki Combs, treasurer; Leon Seitz, legislative; Terrye Davidson, membership; and Emily Adams, community service.

The next meeting will be Sept. 21.
