Seymour wins Haustetter Classic

The Seymour baseball team won the 2023 Bob Haustetter Classic over the weekend at Richmond.

The Owls started by beating New Haven 5-3 and then beat DeKalb 7-6 in the championship game.

In the first game, Bret Perry, Vince Wilson, Charlie Longmeier, Treyton McCormick, Skyler Cockerham, Aiden Darlage, Jack VonDielingen and Jack Pennington all had one hit.

Longmeier, McCormick and Darlage each had one RBI.

Braden Richey pitched four innings and had four strikeouts, and Perry pitched three innings and had two strikeouts.

In the championship game, Cockerham and VonDielingen both had four hits to lead the way, Pennington added two hits and Perry, Wilson and McCormick each one hit.

VonDielingen had two RBI, and Cockerham, Pennington, Perry and Mikey Wright each had one RBI.

Wright pitched six innings and had two strikeouts, and Gavin Leavy pitched one inning and had one strikeout.

DeKalb tied the game in the top of the seventh inning before Seymour walked it off to win.

The Owls are now 22-4 on the season, winners of eight straight, and will play at Eastern (Pekin) today before taking on Jeffersonville in the sectional on Saturday.

Brownstown game rained out

The Brownstown Central baseball team had its game at Southwestern (Hanover) rained out on Saturday.

The game will be made up later today, starting at 6 p.m.

Golf

Braves place third at Jasper

The Brownstown Central boys golf team placed third place overall at the Jasper Wildcat Invitational, shooting a team score of 327. Jasper won with 317, and Bloomington North was second at 320.

Micah Sheffer shot a 76, Caiden Gwin 83, Smith Hackman 84, Chandler Stahl 84 and Matthew Reedy 87.

Brownstown’s JV team placed sixth at the Connersville Invitational on Saturday with a round of 390. Collin Downing shot a 90, Elix Preston 94, Carter Covert 101, Cole Brelage 105 and Jaren Cunningham 110.

Trinity Lutheran shot a team score of 451 to place ninth.

The Braves will play at Madison on Tuesday.

Softball

Musketeers defeat Tigers

The Crothersville softball team lost at home to Eastern (Pekin) 18-2 on Friday night.

The Tigers scored two runs in the third inning with Zoey Prince and Grace Walker each recording a run.

Kendall Berry had two hits, three stolen bases and an RBI, Walker had a double and Dacie Hughes hit a single.

Hughes pitched three innings and had one strikeout, and Prince pitched two innings.

Friday was also Senior Night for Crothersville, as Kendall Berry and Kiley Ferrell were honored before the game.

Crothersville will be playing Tuesday night at Rising Sun to open up sectional play against the winner of New Washington and Rising Sun.
