The Jackson County Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Jackson County Courthouse, 111 S. Main St., Brownstown.

Rumpke of Indiana LLC is requesting an amendment to increase the amount of daily tonnage that is received at the Medora Landfill. The site currently accepts material from residents and businesses within a 75-mile radius. The landfill currently is permitted to receive 2,000 tons of material per day for a six-day workweek.

According to the official public notice April 21 from Rumpke, the landfill has experienced an increase in customers and tonnage being received due to other waste companies exiting the marketplace.

Rumpke is requesting an increase of 1,000 tons per day, which amounts to a daily tonnage limit of 3,000 tons per day.

Additionally, Rumpke said incoming tonnage will continue to generate tipping fees that support Jackson County and the Owen-Carr Township Community Fund.

If approved, the change will allow for the potential funding of up to $936,000 per year to the county and $93,000 per year to Owen-Carr Township.

The meeting is open to the public and press.
