Owls, Braves play at Otis Park

The Seymour and Brownstown Central boys golf teams competed in the BNL Invitational at Otis Park Golf Course on Saturday.

Brownstown placed fourth out of 15 teams with a team score of 326, and Seymour shot a 374.

Micah Sheffer led the Braves with a 78, Smith Hackman shot a personal-best 82, Matthew Reedy 83, Caiden Gwin 83 and Chandler Stahl 90.

Stahl’s 90 broke the tie between BC and BNL, which both shot a 326 and Stahl’s score was better than BNL’s fifth player.

For Seymour, Manny Fontanez shot a 90, Ty Stuckwisch and Luke Baker each shot 93s and Eli Meyer and Noah Surface both shot 98s.

Brownstown’s JV team shot a 373, led by Collin Downing with a 90, Carter Covert 91, Elix Preston 95, Connor Gwin 97 and Drew Shelton 106.

Columbus North won the invite with a 313, followed by Bloomington North 320, Jasper 321, BC 326, BNL 326, Columbus East 328, Center Grove 331, New Albany 343, Mooresville 344, Bloomington South 357, BC JV 373, Seymour 374, Jasper JV 380 and Orleans 392.

The Braves will host Jeffersonville and Trinity Lutheran today at Hickory Hills, while the Owls will host New Albany at Columbus East today at Shadowood.

Baseball

Trinity splits with Indy Lutheran

The Trinity Lutheran baseball team split its doubleheader at home on Saturday against No. 7-ranked Indianapolis Lutheran.

The Cougars dropped the first game 4-0 and then bounced back to win the second game 6-4.

In the first game, Nathan Voelker, Peyton Pollert, Sage Broughton, Kowan Gross and Luke Coomler each had one hit. Gross pitched all seven innings and had three strikeouts.

In the second game, Trinity jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Indy Lutheran tied it at 4 in top of the sixth. The Cougars responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the game.

Voelker, Coomler and Broughton all had two hits, while Drake Goodpaster had one. Broughton had three RBI, Jackson Trueblood had two RBI and Goodpaster had one RBI.

Trueblood also got the win on the mound, pitching all seven innings and striking out six batters.

Trinity is now 7-9 this season and will play at Seymour tonight.

Dugger Union tops Crothersville

The Crothersville baseball team hosted Dugger Union on Saturday afternoon, and it was the away team that was victorious 20-3.

The Tigers had six hits with Devin Morgan and Corey Kelshaw each getting two, and Lucas Hilton and Caden Lewis each had one.

Morgan had two RBI, and Kelshaw had one.

Lucas Hilton pitched 2.2 innings and had four strikeouts, and Beau Napier and Dirk Crater both had two strikeouts each.

Crothersville (1-8) will host Henryville today.

Tennis

Braves play in Scottsburg Invitational

The Brownstown Central girls tennis team competed in the Scottsburg Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The Braves placed eighth overall with five points. Evansville North won with 43 points, Bedford had 40, Scottsburg 32, Lanesville 20, Salem 16, North Harrison 15 and Eastern (Pekin) nine.

Brynn Burton played at one singles, Leah Pottschmidt at two singles, Jenna Bolte three singles, Kaitlyn Williams and Bella Brown played one doubles and Genna Preston and Audrey Scarlett played two doubles.

The Braves will be playing at Trinity Lutheran today.
