Braves win Salem Invitational

The Brownstown Central boys and girls track and field teams flexed their muscle at the Salem Invitational on Thursday night as the Braves won both meets.

The boys won with a team score of 164, and the girls won with a team score of 149.

Top-five finishers for the boys included Isiaah Engle placing second in the 110 hurdles in 16.13, Hudson Fritz going third in the 100 (11.07), Shane Ratliff won the 1600 (4:45.97) and Chance Ratliff was second (4:47.50). Garrett Driver won the 400 (52.06) and Lane Zike was fourth (55.24).

Engle was second in the 300 hurdles (42.87) and Gregory Hutcheson was fourth (44.56), Bradley Edwards was second in the 800 (2:09.78) and Damien Owens was third (2:20.16), Caleb Cummings was third in the 200 (23.28) and Jack Pace was fifth (23.81). The Ratliff twins went 1-2 in the 3200 as Chance was first (10:30.14) and Shane second (10:30.89).

The 4×800 team won in 8:58.10, the 4×100 team won in 44.09 and the 4×400 team won in 3:39.67.

In the field events, Pace was fourth in long jump (17-9), Ryan Branaman was second in shot put (44-3) and Isaac Hutchinson was third in discus (125-9) while Jaden Disque was fourth (123-11).

Top-five finishers for the girls included Camryn Thompson placing third in the 100 hurdles (16.94) and Jocelyn Love was fourth (18.93), Hailey Bear was second in the 100 (13.62) and Maddy Schepman was third (13.85), Trinity Cody was second in the 1600 (6:24.47) and Noe McPherson was third in the 400 (1:09.34).

Thompson was second in the 300 hurdles (48.59) and Love was fifth (54.41), Sophie Wischmeier was fourth in the 800 (2:43.78), Schepman was fourth in the 200 (28.66) and Bair was fifth (29.28) and Cody was second in the 3200 (13:45.05) while Madison Stuckwisch was fifth (15:55.78).

The 4×100 relay team won in 53.34, the 4×400 team won in 4:42.65 and the 4×800 team was second in 12:13.56.

In the field events, Olivia Fritz was third in shot put (29-9.5), Claire Schepman was third in pole vault (6-6), Alexa Wheeles was second in discus (78-11) and Fritz was third (78-0) and Bair won long jump (14-11).

The Braves will host their final home meet of the season on Tuesday against Edinburgh and Indian Creek.

Trinity races in Salem Invitational

The Trinity Lutheran boys and girls track and field teams also competed in the Salem Invitational on Thursday night.

The boys placed seventh with 23 points, and the girls placed sixth with 44 points.

Jake Holland took first place in both the 110 hurdles (15.94) and the 300 hurdles (42.47). Adam Everroad was eighth in the 800 (2:31.84), and the Cougars’ 4×400 team was seventh in 4:33.72.

For the girls, Emalee Goss was seventh in the 100 (13.95), sixth in the 200 (29.53) and second in high jump (5-0).

Cheyenne Campbell was seventh in the 1600 (7:16.44) and fifth in the 800 (2:52.65), Ava Blomenberg was fifth in the 400 (1:10.63) and Bailey Bonde was third in shot put (30-7) and fifth in discus (76-2).

Trinity’s 4×100 team was third in 55.97, and the 4×400 team was fourth in 5:03.56.

The Cougars will next race at Indianapolis Lutheran on Tuesday.

Baseball

Braves beat Highlanders

The Brownstown Central baseball team got its bats going on Friday night at Floyd Central as the Braves beat the Highlanders 7-3.

Brownstown had 12 hits on the night. Pierson Wheeler led the way with three, Ethan Garland, Carson Darlage and Jaxson Johnson each had two hits, and Trent Lowery, Dalton Reedy and Lane Pendleton each had one hit.

Lowery and Wheeler each had two RBI, and Reedy and Chick Tiemeyer both had one RBI.

Garland pitched all seven innings for the Braves, allowing nine hits, three runs and striking out five batters.

The Braves (11-5) will host Clarksville on Monday night.

Softball

Brownstown walks it off

The Brownstown Central softball team was tied 3-3 with Indian Creek on Friday night at home, and then Kyndle Huddleston got a walk-off hit for the Braves in the bottom of the seventh inning to win 4-3.

Brownstown scored three runs in the second inning and Indian Creek responded with three runs in the third inning.

Kelsey Schneider had two hits, and Huddleston, Rylee May and Emily Dillman all had one hit. Schneider also had two RBI, and May and Huddleston each had one RBI.

Rylin Huddleston pitched all seven innings, allowing six hits, three runs and striking out 10 batters.

The Braves (10-5) will play at Hauser on Monday.

Cougars-Tigers game postponed

The softball game between Trinity Lutheran and Crothersville was postponed Friday night due to wet field conditions.

A makeup date between the Cougars and Tigers has not been determined yet.
