Trinity tennis defeats Hauser 4-1 at home

Trinity Lutheran senior Siddha Hall feels like she works better under pressure, and that was on display Thursday night during her No. 2 singles match against Hauser.

Hall had won the first set 6-3 but trailed 3-2 in the second set. With Trinity already up 2-1 in the match as a team and No. 2 doubles heading to a third set, Hall was able to fight back in her set, winning it 7-5 to clinch the match for the Cougars.

“I was so determined,” she said. “I was like, ‘I don’t want to go into a third set, I just want to win this,’ and I did, so I’m happy about that.”

Hall defeated Charlie Clark from Hauser, who had a powerful first serve.

“I felt like we were pretty equally matched,” Hall said. “She definitely had a big serve, but I was able to pull through at the end.”

Hall enjoys the pressure of feeling like she has to get the point or else she might lose the set.

“I think personally I play better under pressure,” she said. “I say to myself if you don’t get this you’ll lose this set, so that just pushes me to do better.”

Head coach Jayme Lowe has noticed that from Hall as well.

“Siddha is just such a determined player,” Lowe said. “She’s a really good example as one of our seniors with just the grit of the game and being able to pull through mentally. I can always rely on Siddha that even when she’s down, she will never get up.”

Hall’s point gave Trinity its third of the match to lock up the win, and then No. 2 doubles was able to win a third-set tiebreaker to give the Cougars’ the 4-1 victory over the Jets.

Natalee Martinez and Emily Keller beat Kayden Miller and Martina Munoz 6-4, 5-7, 10-7.

“That was so impressive of them. I’m so proud. They’ve really grown together as a pair this season,” Lowe said of two doubles. “Tonight, they were really clicking. It was great to have them pull out a great match like that.”

Drew Hubbard was the first off the court for Trinity at No. 1 singles, where she beat Bella Kilps 6-4, 6-2.

Shortly after Hubbard, the No. 1 doubles team of Carson Bowling and Kiley Zabel beat Mattie Foster and Addyson Barriger 6-1, 6-2.

“They are really impressing me this season,” Lowe said. “I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season, hoping for continued success at our one singles and one doubles.”

Hauser’s lone point came at No. 3 singles, where Lydia Jordan knocked off Samantha Enzinger 6-1, 6-3.

With the win, Trinity improves to 6-6 on the season. The Cougars will be on the road twice next week, playing at Christian Academy on Tuesday and at Edinburgh on Thursday.

“Just continuing to improve, kind of locking in on those skills, keeping our mental game strong even when we’re down, keeping our heads up and staying in the game,” Lowe said on what she wants to see from her team. “That can really bring us home a lot of times.”
