SEYMOUR, INDIANA

Mark James Herkamp, age 75 of Seymour, passed away at Seymour Place on April 19, 2023. He was born January 14, 1948 in Seymour, Indiana to Willard Frederick and Wilma Christopher Herkamp. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church on February 15, 1948. Mark graduated from Seymour High School in 1966 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On September 9, 1973, he married Velma Jane Tormoehlen at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He worked as a custodian for Seymour Community Schools for 30 years. He was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 89 and VFW Post 1925.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his brother, Steven M. Herkamp in 1956. Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Scott J. Herkamp and Christine J. (Harold) Prentice, and grandchildren, Kyle (Destinie Staley) Prentice, Cassidy (Davonte Crook) Prentice, Kegan (Peyton) Prentice and Jayden Graham-Herkamp as well as great-grandchildren, KyAire Weathers, Maverick Crook and Xander Prentice.

Friends may visit with Mark’s family Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour, Indiana and one hour prior to the service. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Ralph Blomenberg, Rev. Philip Bloch and Rev. James Rodriguez, Jr. officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Seymour.

Memorials may be given in Mark’s memory through Burkholder Chapel to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Schneck Hospice.
