Owls beat Cubs in extras

The Seymour baseball team went to extra innings in back-to-back nights, and after a tough loss at Bedford North Lawrence on Monday, the Owls bounced back and beat Madison 2-1 in eight innings on Tuesday at American Legion Field.

In the bottom of the eighth, Bret Perry hit a walk-off home run to give the Owls the win.

Madison scored first in the top of the second to go up 1-0, and then Gavin Leavy hit a home run to give the Owls their first run of the game in the sixth inning. It was Leavy’s third homer of the season.

Mikey Wright got the start on the mound for Seymour and had a stellar night with nine strikeouts. Aiden Darlage came in to pitch in the eighth inning and struck out the side.

Seymour is now 10-2 this season and will play at Jennings County on Friday.

Charlestown tops Trinity

Charlestown defeated Trinity Lutheran 6-2 Tuesday at Alf Snyder Field to improve to 9-0 for the season.

The Pirates broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the third, then added single runs in the fifth and sixth.

Trinity’s runs came in the first and third innings and were scored by Nathan Voelker and Andrew Bell. Drake Goodpaster and Nathan Finke each had two hits for Trinity, and Goodpaster had an RBI.

Chase Bode pitched the first 5.1 innings and allowed eight hits, six runs, he had four strikeouts and walked one.

Goodpaster finished up on the mound and had three strikeouts and two walks.

Trinity (5-5) will play a doubleheader at Brownstown Central Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.

Tigers fall to CAI

Christian Academy was able to defeat Crothersville on Tuesday night 15-4.

Lucas Hilton got two hits for the Tigers and Nolan Nickell had one hit. Hilton had one RBI and one run, Corey Kelshaw had one run and Beau Napier had two runs.

Hilton pitched three innings and had seven strikeouts and Devin Morgan pitched two innings and had two strikeouts.

The Tigers (1-4) will host George Washington on Saturday.

Golf

Braves nearly set record at North

The Brownstown Central boys golf team almost set the school record 9-hole team score as the Braves shot a 148 at Harrison Lake on Tuesday night.

Brownstown was one stroke off the record, which is 147, and that’s what Columbus North shot to win the match by one stroke.

Micah Sheffer was the medalist in the match for BC, shooting a 34. Matthew Reedy shot a 37, Caiden Gwin 38, Chandler Stahl 39 and Smith Hackman 41.

In JV play, Columbus North shot a 177 and Brownstown shot a 182. Conner Gwin and Drew Shelton both shot 43s, Collin Downing and Carter Covert both shot 48s and Isaiah Sitterding shot a 53.

The Braves will next host Seymour at Hickory Hills on Friday.

Softball

New Albany shuts out Seymour

The Seymour softball team couldn’t get on the scoreboard at New Albany on Tuesday night as the Bulldogs were able to beat the Owls 5-0.

Seymour had five hits on the night as Alexia Rieckers had two, and Jamie Bobb, Abby Followell and Avery Stewart each had one.

Phoebe Underwood pitched for the Owls and had three strikeouts.

The Owls (3-6) will host Columbus East on Thursday.

Tennis

Seymour sweeps Shelbyville

The Seymour tennis team defeated Shelbyville at home on Tuesday night 5-0.

Brooke Schafstall won 6-0, 6-2 at one singles, Elise Hartung won 6-1, 6-1 at two singles and Claire Combs won 6-3, 6-3 at three singles.

At one doubles, Caroline Thompson and Jessica Hougland won 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, and at two doubles, Addison Hunsley and Ava Sunbury won 6-4, 2-6, 10-4.

In junior varsity play, Marlo Cornn won 8-3, Ashley Clemente won 8-2, Tori Fee and Chantel Wilson teamed up to win 8-2, and Macy Pifer and Avery Musgrove won 8-0.

The Owls (4-1) will host Brownstown Central on Thursday.

Track and field

Track results to come

The Brownstown Central and Trinity Lutheran boys and girls track teams were in action on Tuesday night, but results were unavailable at press time.

The Cougars were at South Decatur while the Braves were at Scottsburg.

Results will be featured in Thursday’s Tribune and online at tribtown.com.
