Seymour boys win NA Relays

The Seymour boys track and field team won the New Albany Relays on Thursday night with a team score of 83.

The Owls won three of the four relays on the night. The 4×800 team of Carter Murphy, Ty Tormoehlen, Jude Bane and Michael Brooks won with a time of 8:30.53. The 4×200 relay of Jesse Mellencamp, Kyle Hileman, Josh Rennekamp and Jaylan Johnson won in 1:34.14.

The 4×100 team of Logan Shelly, Mason Nugent, Mellencamp and Devon Jackson won in 44.64, and the 4×400 team of Jackson, Brooks, Rennekamp and Johnson was third in 3:31.18.

Top five finishers in individual events for Seymour were Bane placing fourth in the 1600 in 4:33.76, Johnson fifth in long jump at 19-11, Owen Kruse third in the shot put at 46-1.75, Curtis Burke fourth in the discus at 122-8 and Kruse fifth at 122-3.

The Owls will host Madison on Tuesday night.

Lady Owls place fourth

The Seymour girls track and field team took home a fourth-place finish at the New Albany Relays on Thursday night with a team score of 63.5.

Seymour’s 4×800 team of AnnMarie Shuler, Kelly Beavers, Vivienne Siefker and Brooke Trinkle was second with a time of 10:21.23.

Placing in the top five in individual events for Seymour featured Trinkle placing third in the 1600 in 5:25.21, Siefker was second in the 3200 12:13.82 and Kinsley Folsom was fifth at 13:07.15, Sydney Montgomery tied for third in the high jump at 4-10 and Kate Connell and Grace Lewis tied for fourth in the pole vault at 7-0.

The Owls will race again on Tuesday when they host Madison.

Baseball

Seymour bounces back

After the first loss of the season, the Seymour baseball team bounced back at home on Friday night to defeat Austin.

Skyler Cockerham had a two-run home run, and Gavin Leavy hit a solo home run to make it 3-0. Charlie Longmeier then hit his first home run of his career, and Seymour was able to go ahead 7-0.

Austin cut the Owls’ lead to 7-6 and then made it a tie game 7-7 into the bottom of the sixth.

Longmeier led off the sixth with a base hit, he got to second on a wild pitch, then stole third, and then Longmeier scored off a wild pitch to make it 8-7 Owls.

Jack VonDielingen made some key defensive plays in the bottom of the seventh inning to help Seymour close out the game.

The Owls are now 9-1 this season and will host Bedford North Lawrence on Monday.

Tigers get first win

The Crothersville baseball team picked up its first win of the season on Friday night as the Tigers beat Cannelton 9-4 at home.

Devin Morgan had three hits, Lucas Hilton had two hits and Corey Reynolds, Caden Lewis, Beau Napier, Nolan Nickell and Dirk Crater each had one hit.

Hilton had two RBI, and Morgan, Reynolds, Josh Reynolds and Nickell each had one RBI.

Hilton pitched five innings and had 12 strikeouts, Napier pitched 1.1 innings and had four strikeouts and Lewis pitched 0.2 innings and had one strikeout.

The Tigers are now 1-3 this season and will host South Central on Monday.
