Mark William Gay, 65, of Seymour passed away Monday evening, April 3, 2023 at his residence. He was born on March 17, 1958, in Seymour, IN. Mark was the son of Billy Roy and Norma Jean (Green) Gay. On November 20, 1999 Mark married Brenda Lou Wright in Hayden, IN and she preceded him in death on February 12, 2017.

Mark is survived by his children, Dustin (Stephanie) Gay, AshLeigh Gay, Nathaniel (Rachel) Cole, Brandon (Ashley) Cole, Christopher (Shanna) Hallett, Phil Cooper, Monty Cooper; eight grandchildren, Ashlyn Cole, Jacklyn Cole, Evan Cole, Lucas Cole, Haley Hallett, Denver Hallett, Trace Cooper and Grant Cooper. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Mark is also survived by three sisters, Marsha (Steve) Whipker, Melody Brewer and Marvina “Mel” Fields and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Brenda, Mark was preceded in death by three sons, Mark Jr., David and James; his parents, Billy Roy and Norma Jean Gay, and one brother in law, Richard Fields.

Mark was a graduate of Brownstown High School. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy for 6 years. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, Mark went on to work as a machinist and was currently employed at Lynch Machinery. He was a member of the American Legion in Seymour and a member of Surprise Christian Church.

Mark enjoyed restoring old cars, especially his most recent project of his 1967 Ford Mustang. On Saturday, April 1, 2023, Mark was able to take his Mustang out for a three hour joy ride. Mark could be found camping, woodworking, or fishing but most importantly he loved spending time with his family.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 12pm at the Voss and Son’s Funeral Home in Seymour. Burial will follow at Hayden Cemetery in Hayden, IN. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 4pm until 7pm at Voss and Son’s.
