Town council planning cleanup day

The Brownstown Town Council has planned a cleanup day in conjunction with Earth Day for town residents from 7 to 11:30 a.m. April 22.

The Jackson County Recycling District is working with Rumpke of Indiana to provide trash trucks for the event, which will be held in the vacant lot in the 300 block of South Main Street.

The list of items that won’t be accepted include electronics such as televisions and computers, household hazardous waste, paint and tires.

The town council recently put the finishing touches on the project and voted to require any town resident planning to bring their trash for disposal to present proof of town residency, such as a driver’s license or a sewer bill.

For information, call the town hall at 812-358-5500.

Earth Day is annual event held April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The first Earth Day was April 22, 1970.
