Monday’s Trinity Lutheran-Austin tennis match came down to No. 2 doubles, where Eagles Ally Davidson and Emma Mains defeated Natalee Martinez and Emily Keller 6-2, 6-8, 6-1 to give the visitors a 3-2 win.

Trinity coach Jayme Lowe said, “We have one new player there. Emily is a freshman, and that is her first match ever. I’m very proud of all the work she put in there and just the growth that I’ve seen with her on the season and the leadership from Natalee. This is her second season playing. As they continue to grow, I think they’ll continue to have some success.”

Martinez is a junior.

Trinity’s points came from Siddha Hall at No. 2 singles and Kiley Zabel and Carson Bowling at No. 1 doubles.

Hall scored a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lydia Luedeman, and Zabel and Bowling were 6-4, 6-2 winners over Ashley Riley and Evelyn Mains.

Lowe said, “I think at both positions, they’re very experienced players and they kind of found their rhythm. With our doubles, they kind of found their rhythm of which girl stays back, which girl goes up. They were both strong on volleys and their serves.”

“Siddha at No. 2 just has a good rhythm and can be a very consistent player once she gets into the rhythm,” Lowe added.

Austin’s Brynn Owens topped Drew Hubbard 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, and Eagle Jaleigh Schepman was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Samantha Enzinger at No. 3 singles.

Lowe said, “It was the first game of the season, and I think both of them continuing to improve their mental game and address their opponents as they come and continue to play aggressively (is what they need to do).”

This was the season opener for both teams.

In junior varsity action, Trinity’s Kayla Jones won her singles match 8-3, and in doubles, Cougars Allison Ward and Olivia Eggersman won 8-1, and Adicyn Otte and Hannah Williams lost 8-3.

The Cougars will try to get in the win column today at home against Southwestern (Hanover) at 5 p.m.
