Cougars open season with win

The Trinity Lutheran softball team started its season with a 13-0 home victory over South Decatur on Tuesday night.

Dianna Munoz led the Cougars with two hits, and Bailey Tabeling, Grace Lance and Olivia Cain each had one hit. Tabeling had two RBI, Rowan Sharp had two RBI, and Maddie Adams and Lance each had one RBI.

Scoring runs for Trinity was Munoz (3), Lance (2), Madison Keith (2), Cain (2), Adams (2), Tabeling (1) and Jasmine McCormick (1).

Lance pitched a shutout in the circle for the Cougars. She only allowed one hit on the night, two walks and had nine strikeouts.

The Cougars (1-0) will next be in action on Thursday at Southwestern Hanover and again on Friday at Jac-Cen-Del.

Shelbyville bests Seymour

The Seymour softball team started its season against a tough Shelbyville team on the road on Tuesday night.

The Golden Bears were able to defeat the Owls 10-0.

Jamie Bobb was the only Owl able to get a hit on the night, and Phoebe Underwood was able to get on base via walk.

Underwood started for Seymour, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing nine runs on nine hits. Underwood also struck out two Golden Bears.

Alexia Rieckers pitched the final 1.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits and striking out one batter.

The Owls (0-1) will next play on Thursday at Scottsburg and again on Friday at Brown County.

Braves game rescheduled

The Brownstown Central softball team had its season-opener on Tuesday night rescheduled.

The Braves were originally supposed to be at Hauser on Tuesday, but that game will now take place on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Instead, Brownstown’s first game will be on Thursday at Jennings County, slated for first pitch at 5 p.m.

The Braves will open at home on Saturday with a round robin against North Decatur and Southwestern Hanover starting at 10 a.m.
