FLOYDS KNOBS — Grace Lewis placed third in diving and Seymour’s 200 free relay team placed third to lead the Seymour girls swimming and diving team to a third-place finish in the Floyd Central Sectional on Saturday.

Floyd Central won its seventh consecutive sectional by scoring 502 points, Jeffersonville was second with 334 and the Owls scored 326 points.

Lewis scored 289.35 points to place third and earn a trip to the Jasper Regional on Tuesday night.

Coach Dave Boggs said Lewis had a solid performance.

“She was pretty good,” Boggs said. “She did exceptional on her 10th dive. It was really good. She hit that as good as I’ve ever seen her.”

He said he was proud of the team effort.

“We had good swims for the whole meet, really. We did what we had to for Thursday to get to Saturday and swam well today,” he said. “We picked up from our seeds on Thursday, so we did about as well as we could.”

Katya Cox finished up her high school career by placing third in the 200 free and sixth in the 50 free, she was part of the 200 free relay that place third and she helped the 400 free relay place fourth.

“I think the Owls had a lot of personal bests,” she said. “It was a combination of Thursday (at the prelims) some people came in really, really strong and they stayed just as strong or got stronger (Saturday). It was nice. We had a lot of podium people, a lot to be proud of.”

She said she felt like the taper worked like it was designed for the girls to peak at the sectional.

“I believe everybody peaked today,” Cox said. “We had some good relay splits. I personally got a PR on my relays today, and some of the other girls also did.”

Other members of the 200 free relay team were Laney Reinhart, Carmyn Wilson and Lillian Simons, and rounding out the 400 free relay unit were Sallie Nicholson, Wilson and Kylie Grove.

Makenna Greenawalt was fifth in the 100 breast, Wilson was seventh in the 50 free and Sydney Bush was seventh in the 100 breast.

Owls placing eighth were Grove in the 200 free, Simons in the 50 free, Kate Connell in diving, Addy Castetter in the 100 fly and Krenzley Zumhingst in the 500 free.
