It is with great sadness that the death of Helen Sommers Goen is announced. Helen, born on November 11, 1924, was 98 at the time of her death on December 18, 2022. She is survived by son Dan (Sandi), granddaughters Sarah Sommers, and Anna Sommers, great grandson Logan Henry Sommers, and brother Louis (Ann) Otte, Jr. Surviving are also numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were husbands G. Henry Sommers, Jr., and Bob Goen, along with son Max Sommers, her parents Louis and Louise Otte, sisters Mary Wienhorst and Evelyn Harris, and brothers Gerald Otte and Harold Otte.

Helen was born and raised in Brownstown, IN. Although she moved away from Jackson County during her marriage to live in Crawfordsville, IN, she was thrilled to come back “home” to her beloved Brownstown and the hills of southern Indiana in 1971. She resided in Brownstown until the age of 90 when she moved to Aurora, Ohio to be near her son and family. Helen was a talented artist and involved member of the Brownstown Christian Church. She dedicated her life to service through her work at Freeman Field during WWII, and her volunteer service at Hoosier Christian Village. More than anything, Helen excelled in her role as “Mam” to her beloved granddaughters. she was kind and generous to all who knew her and loved her. God speed, sweet Mam… You will be missed.

A celebration of life service will be held for Helen in Brownstown, IN (date to be determined).
