Tabeling becomes all-time assist leader at Trinity

Trinity Lutheran senior Bailey Tabeling added another record to her name last week when she played in the Toby Yoho Classic at Eastern Greene.

The Cougars played in three games, and Tabeling surpassed 400 assists in her career, which is a school record at Trinity Lutheran High School.

Tabeling now has 412 assists in her career.

Heading into her senior season, Tabeling told The Tribune that passing was an area she wanted to get better at, and the senior guard has done just that through 16 games this season.

“I’m also going to work on seeing the court,” she said. “I see the court very well, but sometimes, I think I can see it better. Just seeing the court and giving those players who gave the effort to get down the court a chance to score.”

Tabeling has been setting up teammates like Madison Keith, Liza Froedge and Jordan Brewer, who have all had solid double-digit scoring games so far this season.

On top of now owning the all-time assist record at TLHS, Tabeling already broke the all-time scoring record at Trinity in the first game of this season.

Just a few games later, Tabeling also broke the all-time scoring record in all of Jackson County, passing Seymour’s Amanda Moore’s record of 1,687 points.

The night Tabeling broke the county record, which was Nov. 29 at Indy Lutheran, she also broke the record for most points in a single game at TLHS after dropping 38 points.

With still eight games to play this regular season, plus the postseason, Tabeling will continue to add to her impressive statistical profile and keep her name atop the record boards for quite some time.

Last season, Tabeling led her team in scoring, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals. This year, she’s doing the exact same thing, further proving that the senior Cougar is more than just a scorer.

“I’m really proud of myself because sometimes, you look at me and can think ‘She’s just offense,’” Tabeling said. “But if you go and look at those stats, I led in steals, blocks, rebounds, assists. I’m not just a one-dimensional player.”

Tabeling and Trinity are currently 13-3 this season and rank No. 4 in Class A. The Cougars will next play at home on Thursday against West Washington.
