The state election calendar calls for the first day of candidate filings for the May 2 primary to be Wednesday.

This year’s ballot will include a primary in Seymour with mayoral and city council races on the ballot. Candidates for town council or clerk-treasurer seats in Brownstown, Crothersville and Medora also may begin filing declarations of candidacies.

It also is the first day to file a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate for the municipal election.

Filings are completed in person at the Jackson County Clerk’s Office at the Jackson County Judicial Center, 109 S. Sugar St., Brownstown.

The deadline to file for the primary is Feb. 3, and the deadline to withdraw as a candidate is Feb. 10.
