The Friends and Neighbors Extension Homemakers Club held its December meeting at Kay’s Kafe in Brownstown.

They enjoyed various delicious desserts and drinks.

President Ruby Niccum opened the meeting. The Pledge of Allegiance and the club creed were given. The quote of the month is “Friends make a bad situation so much better.”

Ruth Bateman gave a devotional, “I heard the bells on Christmas Day,” based on the 1863 poem by Henry Wadsowrth Longfellow, a truly unusual Christmas song.

Niccum read a devotion about a stable in a little town called Bethlehem. God gave the world the most wonderful gift, a child who would change the world, his son.

For roll call, members shared their favorite Christmas toys.

Rhonda Kidwell shared a game, and members drew Christmas trees on a plate and decorated them.

Bateman read a Christmas letter she receives every year from her friend, Nancy.

Bateman also shared from a book in 1995, “Christ in the Fine Arts,” which included paintings, hymns and writings. She wrote a story about Anna, who was watching for the savior to come. She had portrayed Anna several years ago, and she read the story to fellow club members.

The members also did a Christmas exchange of Christmas towels using the right left Nativity story Christmas game.

Niccum closed the meeting with prayer.

The next meeting will be Jan. 24. Helen Lutes will be hostess, and the group will tour Lutheran Community Home’s new senior living apartments, Walnut Manor.
