From dartball history: Christmas will soon be here, and thinking of the holidays reminds me of the All-Star Games.

On July 24, 1957, the team captains met to make plans for the upcoming season. The idea of having an All-Star Series was brought up. After much discussion, it was decided to have an All-Star Series during the holiday break, pitting players from Bartholomew County teams against players representing the Jackson County teams.

The committee to make all of the arrangements consisted of Ben Meier from Columbus, Charles Trimpe from Waymansville, Vic Sitterding from Brownstown and Herb Trimpe from Seymour. They decided the series would be a best two out of three games during the holiday break each year.

The team captains would be the captains of the teams in first and second place in the league at the time of the series. Each team was to send their best player to the All-Star Game.

This format continued for seven years. In 1964, the league voted to divide the teams into the American League and the National League with teams being randomly drawn to determine their division. This naturally led to the All-Star Game being a competition between the American and National leagues.

This continued for four more years. In 1968, the league voted to return to one division, and the All-Star Games were dropped from the schedule. During the first seven years, Bartholomew County won the series four times, and Jackson County won three times. In the last four years, the American League won one year, and the National League won three years.

The All-Star Games were held at Immanuel, Redeemer, White Creek, Zion and the last seven years at Immanuel.
