Nancy Jane Erp, 84, of Seymour, IN, passed away at home on Friday, December 16, 2022, from a short battle with cancer. Nancy was born January 13, 1938, in Seymour, IN, the daughter of James Floyd Beldon and Charlotte (Pleasants) Beldon. She was married to Joseph Erp on August 19, 1961, in Seymour. Their marriage lasted for nearly 55 years prior to his passing. Then, for the past 4 years, she was married to Donald Kline who wed on August 25, 2018, in Seymour.

Nancy graduated from Shields High School, Seymour and Indiana University, Bloomington with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She began her professional career as a speech and hearing therapist at Mishawaka and then Seymour Schools. After having her first child, she stayed at home and became what everyone who knew Nancy as, a professional volunteer! She was also the manager of the Seymour Elks Club for 16 years, and manager of Lexmoor Apartments.

Nancy was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church where she served as Chairman of Trustees, Chairman of the Administration Board, Chairman of Pastor Parish, President of United Methodist Women, Member of the Choir, and Leader of Sr. High UMYF for 25 years with her husband, Joe. She co-chaired the Jackson County Heart Association with her husband, Joe, for ten years. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa and served as President and Province II Officer and later was an associate member. Nancy was also Girls Club Of America, now Girls Inc., board president and Midwest Region Chair. As Board President, she formed the local Women’s Council. She had been a Jackson County Fair Board member since 1975 and served as President in 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1989, being the first female board president. She also served as the Chair of the Bicentennial Pageant in 1976. Nancy was a charter member of the Leadership of Greater Seymour Board, now Leadership of Jackson County, and served as President from 1984-1986. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1956, receiving her 50 year pin in 2006. She was a supporter of the Southern Indiana Center For the Arts and Jackson County Community Theatre. While at Indiana University, Nancy was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, serving as President her senior year and then served as the National Philanthropy Chairperson after college. While at I.U., she was also a member of the Honor Society, Pleiades. Upon graduation, she continued her loyal support of I.U. when she became a member of the Indiana University Alumni Association, Varsity Club, and Foundation as well as a member of the Indiana University Alumni Club of Jackson County, serving as President. She was also elected to the Indiana University Executive Council.

She is survived by her husband, Don; children: Charlotte (Daniel) Tyree, James (Faith) Erp, and Sarah (David) McKenzie; Grandchildren: Katie, Nancy, Jonathan, Emily (William), Trent, Santana, Peyton, and Joseph; great-grandchildren: Owen, Duncan, Macsen, Benjamin, and Elsie; brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Joseph Erp; her parents J.F. and Charlotte Beldon; her siblings James Beldon, Jr., Mary Miller, and Elizabeth Sparks; brothers-in-law Eugene “Sparky” Sparks and E. Harold Miller; and nephews John “Bud” Miller and Richard “Rick” Sparks.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 28, at First United Methodist Church, 201 E. 3rd Street in Seymour where Rev. Teresa Poole will officiate. Visitation will be at Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour on Tuesday, December 27, from 4-6 P.M. and at the church on Wednesday, December 28 from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery following the service. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Seymour, IN, Choir Fund or the First United Methodist Church of Seymour, IN, Garden Fund.
