Braves dominate North Harrison

The Brownstown Central boys basketball team went on the road to North Harrison and won in impressive fashion, 62-32, on Friday night.

Jack Benter led the Braves in scoring with 25 points on the night. Benter nearly had a triple-double on the night as he also finished with 11 rebounds and nine assists. He added two blocks and one steal for good measure as well.

Chase Coomer knocked in four 3-pointers to finish with 12 points. Adam Stahl added nine points, Micah Sheffer scored seven, and Caiden Gwin, Pierson Wheeler and Colby Hall each contributed three points apiece.

The Braves are now 6-1 this season and will be back in action tonight at Mitchell for a 6 p.m. junior varsity tip followed by varsity at 7:30 p.m.

After that, Brownstown will compete in the Bobcat of Daviess County Classic next week at North Daviess High School.

The Braves competed in that event one year ago and made it to the championship game. They will start this year’s tournament on Wednesday against Loogootee at 8 p.m.

Other teams in the County Classic are Fort Wayne Blackhawk, Evansville Christian, Paoli, South Knox, Forest Park and North Daviess. The event will go from the next Wednesday through next Friday.

Medora falls to Shoals

The Medora boys basketball team had a two-game winning streak until it ran into Shoals on Friday night at home.

Shoals was able to top the Hornets 53-34.

Braxton McCory led the Hornets in scoring with 14 points on the night. Shepard Earl scored eight, Dawson Cornett had five, Hudson Johnson scored three, and Eli Sturgill and Jaxon Nugen both finished with two points each.

Medora is now 2-2 this season and will next play on Monday at Christian Academy.

That will be the Hornets’ final game of 2022 as they won’t play again until Jan. 3 at Columbus Christian after the game with Christian Academy this Monday.
