Tigers beaten at home

The Cannelton girls held a 12-8 lead at halftime and went on to a 40-29 win over Crothersville in a non-conference game in the Tigers Den Friday night.

Hayden Pilgrim hit a 3-pointer to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 36-29 with 2:20 remaining, but the hosts were unable to score again.

Pilgrim scored a season-high 14 points as she made four 2-pointers and a pair of 3-pointers. JoJo Clay added 13 points and topped the Tigers in rebounds with 14 rebounds. Hali Burton scored the other two points for the Tigers.

The Tigers were unable to slow down Kendall Hale, a 6-2 senior who scored 30 points on 10 field goals and made 10 of 15 free throws, plus she had 13 rebounds.

The Tigers (0-7) will host South Central Thursday night.

The boys game was postponed until next Friday because the Bulldogs were hit by the flu bug.

Hornets get first win

The Medora girls picked up their first win of the season Thursday with a 39-33 Southern Roads Conference win at Madison Christian.

It was also Roger Bane’s first win as the Hornets coach.

The Hornets (1-3) will host Martinsville Tabernacle next Friday.

The Medora boys game scheduled for tonight at Vincennes Rivet has been postponed because some Rivet players have the flu.

Boys basketball

Cougars fall at East

The Trinity Lutheran boys basketball team suffered a 66-36 loss at Columbus East on Friday night.

Eli Ballard scored 12 points for the Cougars. Luke Coomler had eight, Kole Shewmaker scored eight, Kowan Gross had six and Peyton Pollert had two.

The Cougars, now 0-2 this season, will play their first home game tonight against Hauser.

Swimming

Seymour swims at North

It was two tightly contested contests between the Seymour boys and girls swimming and diving teams against Columbus North on Thursday night.

The Seymour girls were able to score the victory 114-71, while the boys fell just short 94-89.

For the Lady Owls, first-place finishers included Lauren Bode in the 100 backstroke (1:15.20), Addy Castetter in the 100 fly (1:07.40), Katya Cox in the 100 free (58.19) and Amber Ault in the 500 free (6:06.59).

Seymour won two relays. Makenna Greenawalt, Ault, Sallie Nicholson and Cox won the 200 free in 1:55.87, and Nicholson, Ault, Kylie Grove and Cox won the 400 free in 4:12.43.

In the boys meet, Seymour got a first-place finish from Paul Montgomery in the 100 free (49.96), and the Owls won both the 200 and 400 free relays, as well.

In the 200, Montgomery, Aaron Drake, Grant Smith and Lane Mellencamp finished first with a time of 1:36.86. In the 400, Montgomery, Smith, Larry Simons and Mellencamp won in 3:37.75.

Seymour will now be competing in the Pike Invitational later today at noon.
