On Nov. 19 with the sun shining and bitter breeze in the air, the bowlers all bundled up in coats and blankets and boarded the bus for competition.

The Seymour varsity and junior varsity bowling teams traveled to Parkside Lanes in Greensburg for competition in the SEIC.

In all sports, home court, field or lane generally gives a team an advantage. For the SEIC bowlers, Parkside Lanes is neutral ground.

Heading into the day, the Seymour varsity boys were in a three-way tie for first place, the Seymour varsity girls were in first place by a half point, the Seymour JV 1 in second place and JV 2 in third.

South Eastern Indiana Conference high school bowling includes varsity bowling teams representing Austin, Columbus North, Columbus East, Madison, Scottsburg/Grace Academy/Crothersville, South Ripley, Switzerland County and Seymour. The teams are made up of freshmen through seniors and first-time bowlers through seasoned veterans.

The bowlers played a Baker Game format in which each team had five to seven bowlers bowling as a team and competing to have the highest pin fall in each of the 10 games played. The basic lineup is for the first bowler to bowl frames 1 and 6, bowler two bowled frames 2 and 7, and so on. There were two points available for each win, so the team that won six games won the match. If both teams won five games, then the total pin fall for all 10 games would be the tiebreaker.

The Seymour Owls boys varsity bowled against Switzerland County in match one and Columbus East in match two. Seymour won 12 of 20 in match one and 12 of 20 in match two for a total 24 of 40 overall.

The boys varsity team was represented by Wyatt McKinney, Alex Sturgill, Dillan Cooper, Cohl Moore and Joey Larison.

The boys stayed tied for first place with Madison and South Ripley.

The Seymour Owls girls varsity bowled Columbus North in match one and Switzerland County in match two. Seymour won five of 20 in match one and two of 20 in match two for a total of seven of 40 overall.

The Seymour Owls girls varsity bowling team was represented by Serenity Lacey, Mallorie Misamore, Hailey Burke, Kaylee Patton and Kylee Cooper.

This Friday, the Seymour varsity bowlers will be at Scottsburg Lanes for Seymour, Austin and Scottsburg’s Senior Day. Seniors from each team will be announced and will walk the lanes with their family as a recognition as to what they have done.
