Russell “Buddy” Ortman, 80, of Seymour, IN passed away at his home with his family by his side at 8:45 AM on Wednesday, October 26, 2022. Buddy was born on June 29, 1942, in Cleves, Ohio to Russell William Ortman Sr. and Margery (Shoemaker) Ortman Skaggs, both of who preceded him in death. On June 13, 1965, at the United Methodist Church in Crothersville, IN he married his high school sweetheart Angela (Peacock) Ortman, who survives in Seymour, IN.

Buddy was drafted into the United States Army and was sent to Vietnam one month after he was married. During the Vietnam War he served in the 1st Infantry Division as a gunner on an 81-mortar. Buddy graduated from Crothersville High School class of 1963. He worked at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus and retired from the Seymour plant.

Buddy attended Jonesville Christian Church for many years. He loved to fish, camp, travel, and spend time with his dog Clancy who he adored. He was a huge fan of IU basketball and Crothersville High School basketball. He even helped coach the girls high school basketball team at one time. Most of all, he loved watching his grandkids in their activities, he never missed a single event. He was known as caring, gentle, genuine, generous, funny, and had a great sense of humor.

Survivors include his loving wife Angela (Peacock) Ortman of Seymour, IN, three sons Jon (Erin) Ortman of Seymour, IN, Paul Ortman of Seymour, IN Toby (Paula) Ortman of Crothersville, IN four grandchildren Ethan Ortman of Inuyama, Japan, Hannah Ortman of Crothersville, IN, Zach Ortman of Crothersville, IN John Conner Ortman of Seymour, IN a brother-in-law Norman Davis of Seymour, IN, and a sister Margie Butler of Irvington, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents Russell William Ortman Sr. and Margery (Shoemaker) Ortman Skaggs, stepfather Edgar Skaggs, sister Janet Davis, and infant sister Sandra Jean Ortman.

Pastor Denver Glenn will conduct a private funeral service with invited guests on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 1:00 PM, at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville with a burial to follow at Crothersville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, this will also be private for invited guests only.
