November show to feature Persinger photos

The exhibit for the month of November at Southern Indiana Center for the Arts, 2001 N. Ewing St., Seymour, will feature images by local photographer Joseph F. Persinger.

The opening reception — free and open to the public — will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Refreshments will be served.

In addition to framed prints on paper, canvas and metal and canvas gallery wraps, an assortment of unframed prints, notecards and Jackson County postcards will be featured and available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds going to the center.

The exhibit will be open during regular SICA hours.

Persinger was employed as a photojournalist throughout his career, but during that time, he says he didn’t give much thought to photography as art.

“I was busy photographing traffic accidents, crime scenes, ribbon cuttings, awards presentations, sports — all the things a community newspaper covers,” he said. “It wasn’t until I retired that I began to look for more appealing images that someone might want to put on their wall.”
