Mary Catherine Lightner, 99, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of the late Norman Scott Lightner entered into eternal rest Friday, October 14, 2022. Her graveside service will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022 in the Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Mary Kay was born May 4, 1923 in Seymour, Indiana, daughter of the late Albert Charles Vogel and Maude Prather Vogel. She was a graduate of Batesville High School and Indiana Business School. She married Norman Scott “Scotty” Lightner on February 5, 1943 and they were stationed in Chicago, IL and Bremerton, WA during his service in the Navy. Following Scotty’s discharge from the Navy, the couple relocated to Seymour, IN.

During the early years in Seymour, Mary Kay worked as the secretary at Shields High School. She later became a Welcome Wagon Hostess, and enjoyed her work there while her children were young. She later took a position as secretary for Seymour National Bank, which turned into a long career that she dearly loved. In 1983 Mary Kay and Scotty retired to the Charleston area, where they became active members of First United Methodist Church on the Isle of Palms. Mary Kay will be remembered for the way she loved life and adored her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years; and her son, Jon Charles Lightner. She is survived by her daughter, Luanne Lightner of Mount Pleasant, SC; two grandchildren Robin Leigh Bell and John Scott Bell; and one great grandchild, Jeffrey Patrick Nance.
