A Celebration of Life for Lois Mae Hamman Scheffe, will be held Saturday, October 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the Muscatatuck Wildlife Refuge Charles E. Scheffe Visitor Center. A luncheon/reception will be held immediately following the program at The Pines Restaurant, Seymour.

Lois was born June 22, 1927, to George William Hamman and Ida Moenkhaus Hamman in St. Louis, Missouri, and passed on July, 26, 2022, aged 95.

She is survived by her daughters Janis Hines (Fred) of Seymour, Kristy Wiegand (John) of Evansville, grandchildren Mia McPherson (Chicago), Nicholas Wiegand (Denver) and Noelle Wiegand (New York), and great-grandsons, Charles and Samuel McPherson of Chicago.

Lois graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1945 and attended Butler University. In 1947 she married Charles E. Scheffe in Indianapolis, who preceded her in death.

Lois was an administrative assistant at Aquatic Control, Seymour, First Lady of the Refuge, an active member of the U.S.S. Hoggatt Bay VC-99 family, and member of First United Methodist Church. She worked as a volunteer fundraiser for the Minnesota Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, was active in Seymour’s NARFE chapter, and was a longtime supporter of environmental causes and the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge.
