WASHINGTON
Elizabeth Dewade Toppe, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her Washington residence on September 27, 2022. She was born in Honey Creek, near Brownsville, Kentucky, on October 18, 1935, to Earl and Hilda (Minton) Gipson. On November 17, 1953, she married Jackie Raymond Toppe, and he preceded her in death.
Elizabeth was a beautician who owned and operated her own beauty shop for many years. She was also widely known as a painter who custom-painted pumpkins during this time of the year. She had returning customers from seven states. Elizabeth embraced the Baptist faith.
Known affectionately as MomaLiz, those who now mourn Elizabeth’s passing include: her daughter, Sue (Mark) Kamman of Washington; and her son, John (Mary) Toppe of Vallonia. Elizabeth was blessed with four grandchildren: Sugar (Harold) Williams in Arkansas, Sonya (Walter) Baldauf in Michigan, Joshua Kamman of Indianapolis, and Colby Kamman of Washington. Additionally, she leaves her beloved great-grandchildren: Aaron Baker, Austin Baker, John Dean Baldauf, and Bruce Baldauf.
During her life, Elizabeth knew the sorrow of loss with the passing of her parents, Earl Gipson and Hilda Gipson Nicholson; her stepfather, Emmett Nicholson; her husband, Jackie R. Toppe; her daughter, Kathy Jean Wheeler; and her brother, Ronnie Nicholson.
