Registration open for Oktoberfest contests

Registration has begun for two Seymour Oktoberfest contests.

The baking contest, sponsored by Aldi, will be Sept. 29 at the Community Foundation of Jackson County, 107 Community Drive, Seymour. Drop-off time will be from 10 to 11:45 a.m., and judging will start at noon.

Categories are pie (one or two homemade crusts, whole pie); cake (one, two or three layers); and kids under 18 (any cookie, candy or cupcake with six pieces).

Prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants in each category. Winners will be announced at 5 p.m. that day on the North Stage on the corner of Third and Chestnut streets.

Registration also is open for the baby contest. Signups will not be done in person at the festival this year. Babies will need to registered online at seymouroktoberfest.com/baby by 8 p.m. Sept. 30.

The contest will start at 9 a.m. Oct. 1 on the North Stage. The cost is $5, and payment will be made that morning while getting a contestant number.

The contest is open to ages newborn to 3 years. A child cannot have turned 4 by Oct. 2.

All children will receive a participation ribbon. The top three in each category will receive a plaque/ribbon.

Proceeds from the baby contest will be donated to Girl Scout Troop 135.
