Donald Lee Perkins passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022, in Bloomington, Indiana. He was born in Seymour, Indiana on August 9, 1935, to Silas W. Perkins and Eva D. Pferrer Perkins Knott, who both preceded him in death.

Growing up in Brownstown, he was active in Our Lady of Providence Catholic Church, working at Sy’s Good Gulf and participating in Hoosier basketball to help his Brownstown Bears make it to the semifinals in Indiana Regional Tournament his senior year.

Don went on to graduate from Indiana University with a degree in business and an Army Reserve Officer’s Commission. He served in the Army including a tour in Vietnam retiring with the rank of captain. And then returned to South Vietnam as a Liaison for six years on the staff of the United States Agency for International Development.

After Don returned to the States, he worked as a regional director for the American Red Cross in Boston, Massachusetts. He finished his working years as a college math professor before retiring to The Point at Lake Monroe where he loved to fish and observe wildlife.

In 1956, Don married Saundra Sue Smith Perkins White who survives. They have three children: Lee Ann Perkins Crockett (Lance) of San Antonio, Texas; Mary Lou Perkins Cummings (Dave) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Martin P. Perkins (Lisa) of Denver, Colorado. Sadly, Martin preceded him in death in 2015. His legacy includes nine grandchildren, Kelsey Crockett of Davidsonville, Maryland, Mary Kate Crockett Lewis and Colleen Crockett of San Antonio, Texas; Kathryn, David and Daniel Cummings of the Fort Wayne area; Matthew Perkins, Morgan Perkins Orlady and Layne Perkins of Denver, Colorado. As well, Don has seven great grandchildren: Dexter, Silas and Agatha Crockett-Crane, Regina and Landon Lewis and David and Raymond Cummings with another two on the way.
