Owls sweep Stars

The Seymour boys tennis team beat Bedford North Lawrence 5-0 on Thursday night.

Eli Meyer won 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) at one singles, Hunter Heckman won 6-0, 6-2 at two singles and Reuben Kruse won 6-1, 6-0 at three singles.

The one doubles team of Jack VonDielingen and Joe Schmidt won 6-1, 7-5, and the two doubles team of Parker Thompson and Trevor Alberring won 6-2, 6-4.

The Owls are now 7-1 this season and will play in the Silver Creek Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Braves fall in MSC match

Brownstown Central’s tennis team was only able to come up with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles at Austin on Thursday and lost the Mid-Southern Conference match 3-2.

Winning for the Braves were Pierson Wheeler 6-0, 7-5 over Brayden Furnish at No. 2 singles and Lane Steward 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 over Xander Richie at No. 3 singles.

Smith Hackman fell 6-0, 6-2 to Brendan Hanner at No. 1 singles, while Connor Gwin and Bryce Reaser lost 6-3, 6-1 to Cameron Richie and Parker Bruce at No. 1 doubles and Evan Schneider and Elix Preston fell 6-2, 6-0 to Brooke Swank and Grayson Spires at No. 2 doubles.

The Braves are 2-2 in the Mid-Southern and 3-4 overall. They will host Paoli today.

Boys soccer

Owls draw with Olympians

Seymour and Columbus East met for the O-Cup on the Olympians’ home turf Thursday, but no one was able to come out on top as the game ended in a scoreless 0-0 draw.

Columbus East outshot Seymour 15-6, and Owls keeper Will Smith had four saves, while East’s goalie had three.

Since the varsity game ended in a tie, the O-Cup would then go to the school that won the JV match, but that also ended in a draw.

Seymour’s Evan Unterseher scored their goal, which was assisted by Cayden Cox. Then East scored with 34 seconds left in the game to make it a 1-1 draw.

Seymour’s varsity is now 3-4-1 this season and will be home to Franklin on Saturday.

Golf

Braves tie season-best at Mitchell

The Brownstown Central girls golf team tied its season-low scoreshooting a 196 at Mitchell, which shot a 230.

Gracie Reynolds led the Braves with a 46, followed by Abby Schroer 47 (season best), Jayda Clodfelder 50 (season best), Megan VonDielingen 53 and Emma Hughbanks 54.

Brownstown will play at Bedford North Lawrence next Thursday.

Volleyball

Cougars top Christian Academy

The Trinity Lutheran volleyball team picked up a 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 home victory over Christian Academy on Thursday night.

Bailey Tabeling led the Cougars with 16 kills, Carson Bowling had 10 and Drew Hubbard had four. Bowling had three blocks, while Tabeling and Hubbard each had two.

Laura Roeder served five aces, Addison Darlage had three and Bowling had two. Roeder had 13 digs, Madison Keith had six and Darlage had five. Darlage also had 32 assists.

With the win, Trinity improved to 7-4 on the season and will play at Barr-Reeve on Saturday.

Owls come from behind to beat Panthers

After dropping the first two sets against Jennings County on Tuesday, the Seymour volleyball came rallied off three-straight sets to win in five 22-25, 18-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-8.

Olivia Fish went 48-52 with 16 kills, Cali Cummings went 25-27 with 11 kills and Journee Brown went 23-25 with nine kills. As a team, Seymour hit 136-149 with 48 kills.

Fish served 22-23 with four aces, Addi Lemon served 18-21 with two aces and Greer Henry served 18-19 with one ace. As a team, the Owls served 84-95 with 10 aces.

Lemon had 37 assists while Henry had 18 digs.

In the JV match, Seymour also won 25-16, 25-18. Zoe Williams had five kills while Delaney Thomasma and Anna Kute each had four. Jamie Bobb and Abby Otte both had three aces and Maddie Schrader had one. Kenzie Gagner had eight assists and Schrader had 10 digs.

The Owls are now 9-2 this season and will compete in the Avon Tournament on Saturday.

Braves beat Bulldogs in five sets

The Brownstown volleyball team was in a tough battle at New Albany on Thursday night, but the Braves prevailed in five sets 25-22, 26-28, 25-23, 20-25, 15-10.

Kalee Borden went 43-51 with 16 kills, Sophie Wischmeier went 43-50 with 11 kills and Brailey Teipen went 10-12 with eight kills. As a team, Brownstown hit 132-156 with 49 kills.

Wischmeier served 18-18 with four aces and Borden served 20-22 with two aces. The Braves served 101-107 with eight aces.

Brownstown’s JV team also topped New Albany 25-12, 17-25, 16-14. Olivia Justice had seven kills, Mairi Shaw had five kills and Erica Warren had four kills. Justice served three aces while Kate Skaggs served three.

The Braves are now 5-5 this season and will compete in the Early Bird Tournament on Saturday at Providence.
