Four of the eight school board seats up for re-election in Jackson County during the general election on Nov. 8 will feature races.

Those races were set up as the filing period to run for the nonpartisan seats came to an end at noon Friday.

Seats open on the Seymour Community School Corp. board of education are the ones representing Redding and Washington townships and the two-at-large seats. All of the candidates are from Seymour.

The Redding Township seat is presently held by John M. Kelley, who plans to run again, while the Washington Township seat is held by Max Klosterman, who also is running again. Kelley is facing a challenge from Carl J. Kuhlman, while Klosterman is facing a challenge from Ryon F. Wheeler.

The incumbent at-large candidates are Nancy Franke and Joe Tormoehlen, and they are being challenged by Holly M. Coates. Franke, who is seeking her third term, is presently vice president of the seven-member board of trustees.

The candidates who are running unopposed for the three open seats on the Crothersville Community School Corp. board of education are Timothy J. Mills, District 2; Tiffany L. Reynolds, District 3; and James A. Shirley, District 5. Reynolds, the only incumbent, is currently vice president of the five-member board.

Candidates for the two open seats, districts 4 and 5, on the Medora Community School Corp. board of school trustees are incumbents Darrell Persinger and Larry E. Osborn. They also are running unopposed.
