Stapleton takes Indiana Pro Late Model feature at Brownstown

Chad Stapleton of Edinburgh rode the high side of Brownstown Speedway in P3 Graphix Indiana Pro Late Model Series feature action to capture his second win of the year on U.S. Air Force Night on Aug. 20.

His car is owned by Michael and Laura Bennett of Columbus.

Stapleton charged to the lead with 15 laps to go and did not look back. Trailing Stapleton at the checkers were Steve Peeden, Tyler Collins, Britan Godsey, Brad Rickels, Zack Burton, Tory Collins, Jug Wethington, Alan Magner and Justin Bowling.

Current U.S. Air Force Modified points leader Jordan Wever of Bloomington led flag to flag to record his fifth feature win of 2022. Ryan Thomas, John DeMoss, Nathan Vawter and Logan Mounce completed the top five.

Tucker Chastain of Bedford led all 20 laps of the Pewter Hall Super Stock feature to pick up win No. 4 for the year. He took the checkers ahead of Zach Sasser, Branden Carr, Greg Amick and Tanner Chastain.

Dusten Carr of Underwood made it three in a row in All in 1 Pools Pure Stock feature wins. His fourth season win came ahead of Keaton Streeval, Paul Ortman, Josh Hayes and Daniel Hupp.

In Cain’s Tree Service Hornet action, North Vernon racers Jacob Owens and Michael Brewer battled all race long. They made contact off of Turn 4 coming to the checkers, and Owens prevailed. This was his fourth win of the year over, finishing ahead of Kaleb Caudill, Brewer, Davey Waggoner and Curtis Roccia.

Columbus go-kart results

Tony Stewart Speedway at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds in Columbus was the site of go-kart racing Aug. 20.

The division winners were Joseph Hiten (rookies), Lynx Lawson (junior 1), Jacob Chadd (junior 3), Kyle King (pred), Richard Palmer (clone medium), Evan Shatto (clone heavy), Travis Wilburn (super heavy) and Brenden McGlothlin (mod lites).

The next scheduled event is slated for Sept. 3.

Paragon results

Paragon Speedway saw six divisions of racing Aug. 20.

The winners were Brady Short (410 non-wing sprint), Chad Freeman (steel block sprints), Austin Phelps (super stocks), Ethan Litton (bombers), Nick Hoffman (modifieds) and Greg Garrison (hornets). Paragon will be idle until Sept. 10.

Bloomington race results

Bloomington Speedway held a racing program Aug. 19. The division winners were Bryce Norris (racesaver sprints), Jadon Rogers (410 non-wing sprints) and Greg Amick (super stocks).

The next scheduled race at Bloomington will be Friday with the Josh Burton Memorial Race.

Lawrenceburg racing tonight

The Dick Gaines Memorial Race for sprint cars scheduled for Aug. 20 at Lawrenceburg Speedway was rained out and has been rescheduled for Sept, 3.

This week in racing history

From 50 years ago this weekend in 1972 at Brownstown, Paul Crockett won the late model feature over Kenny Simpson and William Wampler. Russ Petro won the demo derby held after the races.

Also from 1972 at Twin Cities, there was a Friday and Saturday night racing program. On Friday, Butch Shay won the feature race over Charlie Mounce, Robin Hayes, Bud Seymour and Gary Herbert. On Saturday, Phil Fultz took the feature over Hillbilly Ogle, Bob Wolfschlag, Chuck Gilpin and Bill Smith.

From 50 years ago, the Columbus Kart Club winners were Randy Ragin, David Murray, Gene Wilber, Larry Smith, Frank Hoban and Butch Jerel.

From 1972 at Haubstadt, Larry Miller won the sprint car feature over Sheldon Kinser and Jim Hirsch. Ira Bastin won the late model feature over Tom Helfrich and Jim Waters.

Also from 50 years ago at Paragon, Danny Bowlen won the sprint car feature over Sheldon Kinser, Bobby Black, Butch Wilkerson and Bob Kinser. Slim Simpson won the stock car feature over Junior Pace, Glenn Sheeks, Ronnie Rhodes and Ernie Barrow.

From 30 years ago in 1992 at Brownstown, Don O’Neal won the late model feature over John Gill, Mike Jewell, Lee Fleetwood and Gary Green. Kevin Briscoe won the winged sprint car feature over Mark Cummins, Craig Keel, Eric Davis and Robby Stannard. Mark Barber took the street stock feature over Randy Petro, Darren Davis, Scott Patman and Tim Clark. Darin George won the bomber feature over Murl Robinson, Mark Bruce, Roger Vanosdol and Randy Knapp.

Also from 1992 at Bloomington, Bobby Davis Jr. won the All-Star Circuit of Champions sprint car feature over Mark Keegan, Kelly Kinser and Kevin Huntley.
